Epistemologies of the South: South-South dialogues and Intercultural translation.

The Faculty of Humanities together with UHURU (Unit for Humanities at Rhodes University) invite you to attend the following seminar:

Title: Epistemologies of the South: South-South dialogues and Intercultural translation.

Presented by: Prof Boaventura de Sousa Santos

Summary:  I have been proposing a paradigm shift in epistemology. If  it is true, as I claim, that the understanding of the world by far  exceeds the western understanding of the world what will be the  consequences for which kinds of south-south dialogues?

Boaventura de Sousa Santos is Professor of Sociology, University of Coimbra (Portugal), Distinguished Legal Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Global Legal Scholar at the University of Warwick. He earned is PhD. from Yale University. He is director of the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra and has written and published widely on the issues of globalization, sociology of law and the state, epistemology, social movements and the World Social Forum. His books are published in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Chinese
